DELTA, BC, July 7, 2021 — Demonstrating its expertise in electric commercial vehicle upfitting, Commercial Truck Equipment recently completed a set of start-to-finish builds including engineering, fabrication, installation, testing, and delivery of two state-of-the-art BYD Medium-Duty Truck Chassis for one of Canada’s largest municipalities.

Commercial Truck Equipment was responsible for significant customization including the design and manufacture of custom 15’ checker-plate aluminum flat decks with L-track walls, hydraulic lift gate mounts, and actuating arrow boards. Additional upgrades included both underbody and on-vehicle toolboxes from multiple manufacturers, shovel holders, backup cameras, and full custom LED lighting.

Working with municipalities on projects like this is a core strength for us, and with our extensive EV knowledge, in-house engineering capability, and vast vendor networks, we were able to complete this on-time, and on-budget without issue.” offered Will Schwenger, Project Manager.

Utilizing its customer-centric approach to vehicle customization, Commercial Truck Equipment was able to design and implement specific usability, operator comfort, and safety features tailored completely to the unique client application: large-item refuse collection such as appliances, furniture, and mattresses. The client-supplied BYD chassis have 26,000 GVWR, 335 hp electric drivetrains, a 300 km range, and 2-hour DC fast charging capability.

We’ve been leading the commercial EV space in Canada, and it continues to be a huge focus for us moving forward. In addition to electric-drivetrain fire trucks, we also offer performance hybrid safety vehicles for aviation and structure fire, as well as electric idle-reduction upfitting and fully electric PTO’s. I think this project also shows our versatility in the EV space given that we were working with client-supplied vehicles” said Steve Tatone, President of Commercial Truck Equipment.
