Commercial Truck Equipment Solidifies Foothold in Edmonton Region with Largest Facility Expansion in Company History

EDMONTON, AB – April 25, 2022 – The Commercial Group of Companies, comprising Commercial Truck Equipment, Commercial Utility Equipment, and Commercial Emergency Equipment, have purchased a 29,000 sq. ft. facility on 5.54 acres, and are currently in the process of a full renovation and refurbishment which includes an 18,000 sq. ft. addition. The new facility will replace the existing Edmonton branch location, serving as the new hub for Commercial’s northern Alberta sales, production, service, and parts operations.

We are very excited about this latest addition to our corporate infrastructure in the Alberta marketplace. It reflects our continuing commitment to providing exceptional service to customers in the Alberta truck equipment industry, said Steve Tatone, President of the Commercial Group of Companies. “Our success in Alberta had us busting at the seams in our current Edmonton facility, and this new space will allow us to further expand our service and production capabilities for the Alberta marketplace so that we can provide more of the awesome sales, parts, and service experiences that our customers have come to expect from Commercial Truck Equipment,” he added.

The new facility, located at 8412 15 Street, Strathcona County, AB, will house 19 full-size specialized shop bays all designed with the customer and their equipment in mind. In addition to the expansive production and service space, the facility also contains 17 offices, a 600 sq. ft training and meeting room, a 12,000 sq. ft. floor-to-ceiling parts warehousing area, and a new showroom with an open-plan customer area and parts and service reception desks. Edmonton’s current team will be moving to the facility throughout late June and into early July.

I’m pleased to welcome the Commercial Group of Companies to their newly renovated and expanded home in Strathcona County. This new hub will fill the regional need for utility, emergency, and work trucks and demonstrates Strathcona County’s ideal location and business conditions for manufacturing, distribution, and service facilities,” said Rod Frank, Mayor of Strathcona County.

Alberta-based Scott Builders Inc. was selected as the Prime Contractor for the project, and the significant renovation/addition is currently on-track to be complete in June, with an occupancy permit expected for late that month. While the 18,000 sq. ft. addition is being constructed anew, the existing building is also being completely customized and renovated to suit the needs of Commercial.

This major investment we’ve made shows our dedication to our customers in Alberta and reflects our continued growth trajectory across Canada. It’s not just more square footage for us, it’s local job creation and an industry-leading flagship facility that will allow us to produce more world-class solutions for our utility, towing, municipal, and emergency equipment customers.” – Brock MacKay, Chief Financial Officer of Commercial Truck Equipment Co.

The new Edmonton facility includes some unique features, including a “blue floor” customer delivery area, which not only has blue epoxy floors meant to deliberately contrast the common red or white paint of emergency, utility, and work truck bodies, but also facilitates customer inspection and delivery with a full complement of tools and evaluation equipment, refreshments and snacks, upgraded lighting, and extra seating for clients.

We’ve touched every part of this facility, and it’s completely custom-tailored for us down to the color of the flakes in the flooringthe height of the cutouts in the parts desks for heavy parts, and the exact location of the floor drains and electrical outlets for our fabrication equipment, said Brennan Kapler, Edmonton’s Branch Manager. Our production, parts, service, and office staff will all be able to do a better job for our customers as a result of the planning we’ve done and the decisions we’ve made for this facility. It’ll serve us very well for years and years to come, and we can’t wait to get into there.”

Customers and clients can expect to drop vehicles off for service, pick up parts, and meet sales staff at the new facility from early July, with an official grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony tentatively planned for September.
